The Walshes was cancelled, and Graham Linehan is pretty mad

The BBC decided to axe the show after only three episodes.

FATHER TED WRITER Graham Linehan has blamed ‘zero publicity’ on the cancellation of his new sitcom The Walshes.

The comedy is based on the webseries The Taste of Home by Irish comedy troupe Diet of Worms, and centres on a family living in the fictional Dublin suburb of Strollinstown in the 1980s.

It first aired in March of last year on RTÉ One, before being brought over to BBC4 and BBC2 - where it received a far more positive reaction.

Linehan today lashed out at the BBC on Twitter for cancelling The Walshes after three episodes, sharing a link to all the ‘nice’ tweets he received about the show since the news broke last night.

He asked the BBC how they expected the show to get off the ground given the lack of publicity:

He stressed that the commissioning editor Shane Allen, who brought the show to the BBC, “always fought hard for it” and that the order to cancel the show came “from higher up”.

Fans have expressed hopes that The Walshes will be picked up by another channel – Linehan himself has said that the show isn’t dead yet:
